Questions
How do I know which joint I need?
The joint is the thread where the shaft screws into the butt. It is named on your cue page and usually stamped on the butt. McDermott and most American cues use 3/8"-10; Longoni uses VP2; Uni-Loc and QR are quick-release joints; OKKO uses 5/16"-18.
Does a smaller tip play better?
It plays differently. A smaller tip makes spin easier to apply and is usual for nine-ball and straight pool; a larger tip is steadier and is usual for breaking. Between 12 and 12.75 mm is where most players land.
Carbon fibre or maple?
Carbon fibre deflects the cue ball less, does not warp, and is unaffected by humidity. Maple plays the way the game has always played and costs less. Both are sold here in every joint we carry.
Will a carbon shaft fit my old cue?
If the joint matches, yes. The DEFY is sold in 3/8"-10, Uni-Loc and QR, and the Luna Nera in VP2, so most cues have a carbon option.
Do shafts come with a tip installed?
Yes. Every shaft on this page ships with its factory tip fitted and shaped, ready to play.
How long is a pool shaft?
Twenty-nine inches, which is the standard for a 58-inch cue. Break shafts are the same length and are cut stiffer.
